Designed to be the cultural icon of our southland, the National Academy for the Performing Arts (South) is a striking addition to the urban landscape. SAPA is integral to a national strategy to develop performing arts and local culture by investing in and grooming the country’s raw talent.
The G-clef inspired design for this Performing Arts Academy pays tribute to the facility’s goal to be a modern training ground for world class performers. Outfitted with advanced training and performance spaces, coupled with state-of-the-art acoustics, SAPA is the southern home for cultivation of local talent, with particular emphasis on the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago, the steelpan.
The 110,093 square foot facility features acoustically designed performance theatre and two practice halls. There are also performing arts teaching facilities and high-tech audio visual equipment. In order to facilitate the seamless movement of students, performers and the comfort of patrons through SAPA adequate parking facilities and seating capacity have been provided. The building is outfitted with modern fire detection and security systems and surrounded by landscaped green spaced.
The SAPA is UDeCOTT’s contribution to the development of artists and performers of the highest quality.
