In order to facilitate the expansion of Port of Spain’s Central Business District, it is necessary to alleviate the traffic congestion which currently plagues the city. A multimodal transportation hub concept is recommended to form part of the rejuvenated CBD, which will boast a hub for all types of transportation including bus service from the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) Terminal; a Cruise ship Complex at Invaders Bay and Inter-island Ferry service in Central Port of Spain; park and ride facilities; and proximity planning that improves the accessibility of related functions via active transportation modes.

As part of the drive to improve the pedestrianization of the capital city, and to provide easier access to the existing PTSC Terminal and Inter-island Ferry Terminal, state-of-the-art pedestrian overpasses are currently being developed on Wrightson Road and South Quay, Port of Spain. The pedestrian overpasses will feature enclosed air-conditioned ramps, elevators, bridge-decks and CCTV security systems. a similar pedestrian overpass will be constructed at Chancery Lane, San Fernando.
